Five Questions About Leadership and Legacies
1. What aspect of college dodgeball made you want to captain an NCDA team?
The universal excitement everyone feels toward the sport.
2. What are the main principles that you emphasize to your team?
Play fair and be respectful. Catches win games. Try not to stall excessively, it’s boring to watch and undermines the integrity of the game. Just have fun; we’ll celebrate later regardless of score.
3. How do you want your team to remember you after your captaincy is over?
Our team is stuck with us for a few more years. Hopefully they remember the Kent State Dodgeball experience on and off the battlefield.
4. What characteristics will you look for in your successor?
Honest, level headed, can handle paperwork, isn’t a pansy and understands the value of face-shots.
5. As a captain, what's your biggest priority for the league going forward?
To grow and remain flexible. Everyone seems to agree the more colleges that join and stick with the NCDA the better. But I think since the NCDA is still a fairly manageable size we should be willing to try out differences in how the game is played, These games don’t necessarily need to go on the record, but flexibility is key to continue to perfect the game. Also just to have fun, because we’re all playing for the same reasons: We love the game, and we love smashing people in the face.
