Hello captains! I hope everyone is excited for Nationals 2012! It should be record breaking in participation this year as we have 20 teams confirmed right now! The goal of this packet is to get the information I need from each team, to answer any questions you may have, and to make sure you know how to contact me should you have ANY questions. -Spencer Jardine

What SVSU needs:

Cost of tournament - $200, due by March 20th, 2012

Fee includes:

  1. 20 official Nationals T shirts
  2. All-Star game shirts
  3. Paid alumni referees
  4. Staff and medical personnel
  5. Facilities
  6. Website fee
  7. Brochures for each team

Break down the $200 between 20 players and your entry fee is $10 for each player which is doable for any team.
Please make all checks payable to SVSU Dodgeball, and mail them to:

Aaron Mowen
Saginaw Valley State University
7400 Bay Road
University Center, MI 48710

Brochures:

I know it is difficult to set a roster a month ahead of time, but do your best when sending me a roster. Please include in the roster your players' class standing (Freshman, Junior, etc), jersey number, and if they are a captain/assistant. I also need a short history of your team that includes the founding year and founding member as well as the file for the photo you would like in the brochure (the original file is preferred).

Referees:

This year, SVSU will use former players as paid refs in an effort to improve the overall quality of reffing at games this year. This style of reffing has worked with great success in SVSU home games this year, and we hope it continues at Nationals. What we do need, however, are more refs. If you have any alumni or former players who know the game and would like to make some money, please have them contact me. I am currently looking for 8 refs, but would not be opposed to more since they are a long two days.

Dodgeballs:

Make sure your team brings a minimum of 15 LABLED dodgeballs. Teams have had issues in the past with others taking home the wrong dodgeballs; please take steps to ensure yours are properly labeled.

Check in/ID:

Like Western Kentucky did last year, all players participating in the tournament will be required to have a valid school ID for check in.

Other Information

Hotels:

Here at SVSU, there are a wide variety of hotels available for you to choose from; however, I know cost is a big factor in attending Nationals. Below is a list of the four cheapest hotels around SVSU's campus. If these hotels do not fit your needs, please contact me, and we can find you alternative lodging.

Northgate Inn, Saginaw - $55 per night - (989) 790-9454
Knights Inn, Saginaw - $60 per night – (989) 791-1411
Super 8, Saginaw - $55 per night - (888) 288-5081
Bay City Plaza - $55 - (989) 686-0840

All-star game/Ladies' game:

Game format for the All-Star game will remain the same as far as play is concerned and how players are voted into the game (30 players for each team, two 10 minute halves.) Instead of the 'World vs Michigan' format this year, teams will be picked by drawing names from a hat. The same will be done for the ladies' dodgeball game which will also take place the first day. Please let me know if you have any lady dodgeballers interested.
